We are nestled on 20 acres of beautiful, wooded landscape in Cape May Court House, NJ. The Owner, Marci Kelleher, and her family take pride in making sure your stay is relaxing, enjoyable and memorable. Much care is taken to ensure our cabins and sites are clean and ready for your stay. Our quiet hours are strictly enforced to provide you with a peaceful experience while you are with us. We take extra care to provide special touches that we hope will enhance your stay.

Ponderosa Campground offers a 1600 square foot saltwater pool. The pool has a zero-depth entry, making it easy to get in and enjoy. It also features water jets and a fountain for your entertainment. A lot of thought went into designing a pool that is enjoyable for everyone. There is a deeper section for adults and a shallower, child-friendly side, that offers a depth from 6 inches to 3 feet. Multiple water pumps, filters, and chlorination ensure the pool water is clean, safe, and refreshing for all.

We have a pirate ship play area located adjacent to the pool, which allows your child’s dreams of pirate adventure to come true. Within the campground you will also find a full and a half-court for basketball, a volleyball court, and a playground with a swing set, which offer fun activities for all ages.

Ponderosa Campground staff are friendly and knowledgeable about many of the attractions in the area. Whether it’s the beaches from Avalon to Cape May, the boardwalks of Wildwood, Ocean City, Atlantic City or lots of things in between, feel free to ask us any questions you may have.

Ponderosa Campground offers a clean bathhouse with FREE hot showers (for our Rustic Cabin rentals), along with a touch of seashore decor. For your convenience, we have a laundry facility onsite which uses an app (no quarters needed!). We also sell firewood, ice, ice cream and other camping essentials in our office. Please be advised that NO outside firewood is permitted in the campground due to safety reasons.  Outside firewood will be confiscated and disposed of.

Our office area has many brochures providing information/directions to various Jersey Shore attractions. There are several amenities close to the campground, such as the Acme grocery store, which is conveniently located less than a mile from the campground.

The Cape May County Zoo and Park is located 3 miles south of Ponderosa, on Route 9. It is the only free zoo in the area, offering an opportunity for your family to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the animals. Also, south of Ponderosa Campground is Stone Harbor, with a relaxing beach and wide range of shopping and restaurants. The Wildwoods let the kid in everyone come out to play! Whether it’s the famous Morey’s Amusement Pier and Water Park, the endless arcades and eateries along the boardwalk, or the wide array of restaurants located throughout the town, there is something for everyone!

Cape May is located just south of Wildwood and features a quaint town with Victoria-Era architecture. Cape May is also home to a large variety of shops and restaurants. Don’t forget to go hunting for Cape May Diamonds at Cape May Point and stay to witness one of the most stunning sunsets you will ever see.

History

Robert and Judy Kelleher, along with their five children, purchased Ponderosa Campground in 1979. Robert who was called “Bob” or “Big Boy” purchased the campground for his wife Judy to raise their children. Bob was a commercial fisherman and clammed for surf clams off the shore of Cape May. He was not on land much and while he was at sea working, Judy and her children (Bob, John, Michelle, Melissa and Marcia) ran the campground. The boys became commercial fisherman as well, and when not at sea with their dad, would continue to help with the campground. At first, the family home was a small farmhouse and there was a small camp store.  During that time, only seasonal sites were offered. The EX-section of the campground did not exist until many years later. The seasonal sites consisted of only travel trailers, not the luxury Park Models you see in the campground today. At the end of every year, the trailers were pulled off the sites and put in storage. The Kelleher family would paint all the picnic tables each year as well as pick up the trash throughout the campground daily in a pick-up truck and take it to the dump.

Camping has evolved at Ponderosa Campground over the years. Marci Kelleher took over the family business in 1990, which allowed her mother and father to retire and head out to enjoy sport fishing in Florida and Chincoteague, Virginia. Tragically, Bob passed away from cancer only a short time later. This has been a great loss to the Kelleher family as well as Ponderosa Campground. Marci and her two children, Sydney and Brody, currently live on the property and manage the campground. Judy Kelleher helps Marci with her children as well as with ideas for the campground. Ponderosa has come a long way since 1979, with the addition of a beautiful saltwater pool, activity pavilion and cottage-style log cabins. One thing that hasn’t changed over the years is that Ponderosa remains family owned and operated and will always strive to offer families an affordable vacation at the Jersey Shore.
