Meet the Stars of the Farm

At the farm, you’ll encounter a delightful variety of animals, each with their own personality. Some of our animal residents include:

Prince is a 20-year-old unicorn pony. When we rescued Prince, he had some trust issues. He is still shy, but he gives the best pony kisses.

Hank, our Mini Highland cow, is only a year and a half old. He is the best cuddle bug and loves being in front of the camera!

Tigger is an eight-year-old mini pony. He was neglected and sent to a livestock auction, where we rescued him. Tigger loves to chat and is full of life.

Noel is one of our younger goats. She was born here on the farm in July 2022. She is a spunky little girl and loves running around the pen and getting the other goats excited.

You’ll also meet other animals, including rabbits, goats, sheep, cows, horses—each with its own story and charm. These animals make for fantastic photo opportunities, so bring your camera and snap a picture with your new furry or feathered friends!

The Early Days: A Dream Becomes Reality

The story of Ponderosa Campground began with a simple dream: to create a welcoming, family-friendly space where people could connect with nature while enjoying the comforts of home. Founded by a passionate family that loved the outdoors, our campground was designed to bring people together in a peaceful, serene environment. From its humble beginnings as a small campground with basic amenities, Ponderosa Campground quickly became a local favorite for its charming atmosphere and welcoming spirit.

A Look Back at Ponderosa Campground’s Roots

Ponderosa Campground has been a family affair since 1979, when Robert “Big Boy” Kelleher and his wife Judy purchased the property to raise their five children. While Bob worked as a commercial fisherman off the Cape May coast, Judy and the kids ran the day-to-day operations, managing a small farmhouse, modest camp store, and seasonal trailer sites.

Over time, camping at Ponderosa evolved—from repainting picnic tables and hauling trash in a pickup truck to welcoming guests to luxury Park Models, a saltwater pool , and cozy cabins.

In 1990, daughter Marci Kelleher took the reins, continuing the family legacy with her own children, Sydney and Brody, by her side. Today, Ponderosa remains proudly family-owned and deeply rooted in its original mission: creating affordable, memory-making vacations at the Jersey Shore.

Through it all, we remained committed to our mission of creating an experience that’s focused on family bonding and relaxation. Ponderosa Campground has evolved into a place where families can unplug, unwind, and reconnect with each other and nature.

Bringing Your Dog to Ponderosa? Here’s What You Need to Know

Bringing Your Furry Friends to Ponderosa

At Ponderosa Campground, we know pets are part of the family, and we’re happy to welcome yours! All of our cabins are pet-friendly, and we ask for a $15 fee per pet, per stay. When booking, just let us know how many furry companions you’re bringing along.

To keep everyone safe and smiling, pets should be calm, well-socialized, and on a leash at all times. Adults must accompany pets while on the property, and we kindly ask that you clean up after them. For everyone's safety, pets aren’t allowed in the pool area.

Please bring proof of up-to-date vaccinations to show at check-in, and if your pet needs to stay in the cabin without you, be sure to bring a crate or small pen. If a pet becomes disruptive, we may have to ask you to head home early, and we’d really hate to see that happen. Let's all work together to make your stay a tail-wagging good time!

We allow up to two dogs per campsite and ask that they be well-behaved and not disturb other campers. For those with pets that need to stretch their legs, we have several pet-friendly areas where your dog can play, but please remember that aggressive behavior or excessive noise is not allowed.

If a pet becomes disruptive, we may have to ask you to head home early, and we’d really hate to see that happen. Let's all work together to make your stay a tail-wagging good time!
